The students are really enjoying working on Learnstorm Chicago through Khan Academy. Did you know they can also work on it at home? It is fun to see them achieve their badges and avatars! This week we placed in the top 100 of all schools participating. For periods 1 and 3 we are finishing our unit on solving and graphing inequalities. What kind of real life situations involve inequalities? Ask your child! For periods 2 and 9, we wrapped up our unit on dividing fractions and now beginning ratios. What are ratios? Students found out today so they probably can tell you! For periods 7 and 8, we have been working on solving ratio problems through tape diagrams, ratio tables and double number lines. We learned this week what rates are. Did you know all rates are ratios but not all ratios are rates? We will be working on Learn Storm Chicago next week on 2/29 and 3/4. Make sure your child brings their ear buds so they can listen to the tutorials. Have a great weekend! Mrs. Biarnesen
We had a great start to Learn Storm Chicago through Khan Academy last week! I was really impressed by how much the students enjoyed it. Here are what students shared on what they learned: "I learned what range was.", "I learned how to find mean.", "How to do things to powers.", "How to make a histogram.", "How to find surface area using nets.", "I learned more about absolute value." and "I learned nets of 3-D figures." The learning power was endless. We will again be working on Learn Storm next week.
What are we learning in math class? In periods 7 and 8, we wrapped up our lessons on ratios and equivalent ratios and now are learning to graph ratio tables. Do you know what a coordinate grid is? Next up, we will be comparing ratios, learning unit rates and learning proportions. In periods 1 and 3 we are finishing solving integer equations. Next, we will be writing equations given a table of values and then graphing equations. In periods 2 and 9 we are dividing fractions. We are learning the model way as well as the algorithm way. I am proud of the students' effort in their learning. Stay warm this week! Mrs. Biarnesen |
