Hi,
I hope everyone enjoyed their spring break! We have been learning a lot about ratios. Do you know what a ratio is? Ask your child. We created ratio tables, equivalent ratios, and tape diagrams as different strategies to solve ratio problems. As a wrap up, we did a Jelly Belly activity where students created ratios, tape diagrams and solved ratio problems. At the end, students got to create their own flavors and write down the ratios. To learn what tape diagrams are we worked on a Math Playground lesson using thinking blocks for ratios and proportions. To help review ratios and tape diagrams students received a tangram for each problem that was correct. When they had all 7 tangram pieces, students were challenged to make a square with all 7 pieces. Tangrams are used to make specific shapes. This week we will continue solving ratio problems with double number lines.
We then will be learning coordinate graphing, graphing ratios, comparing ratios, rates and unit rates.
PARCC testing begins on 4/6/17.
