Why do we have to know what the greatest common factor and least common multiple are? What real life situations use them? We did a Fruit Basket Challenge for greatest common factor and a math carousel activity for least common multiple. These were real life situations. We are not only learning the basic math concepts but applying them with critical thinking as well! We completed our unit on dividing multi-digit numbers and are now learning to master decimal operations. What questions can you ask your child: What does line up the dot, give it all you got mean?, What are placeholders and when do we use them?, What does annexing zeroes mean and when do we annex zeroes?, How can decimal grids be used to add and multiply decimals?, What is the division house?, What does Does McDonalds Sell Burgers mean for division? This year students are putting together an Interactive Student Notebook. It is a good reference tool for what we are learning in math. It also promotes student engagement, responsibility and organization. Have you seen your child’s? Earlier this year we completed a learning styles survey and multiple intelligences survey. They are part of the ISN. What are your learning styles and multiple intelligences? Homework papers are passed back weekly. Does your child show you these? Also, students who are absent are still responsible for completing the homework. Where can they find out what the homework is and get copies of any handouts? In the Absent Binder. Have you checked out my teacher website? Homework, student blogs and teacher blogs are posted here. What questions do you have? Please email me or call me. Thanks!
